Presentation and Dissemination of Environmental Data Using ArcView Internet Map Server

Michael Ostling

The Environmental Satellite Data Centre is developing strategies for archiving, cataloging, and visualization of environmental data sets mostly derived from EO-data. The development includes implementation of the ISO 211 metadata standard in an Oracle server and creation of a Windows explorer like the ActiveX interface against this metadata server called GEOData Explorer. Storage of themes and views for presentation in ArcView Internet Map Server use relational database storage instead of using ArcView GIS project files. The GEOData Explorer is planned to be an interface both for ordering data and choosing data for visualization. ArcView Internet Map Server will be used with several different aims: visualization of data, geographic search interface into metadata catalog, and information tool for giving information on environmental sites. Customers are the Swedish EPA and the European Environment Agency (EEA).
