Hazards Information for Local Planning and Coastal Management NOAA Coastal Services Center Paper Text

While today's technology provides wide access to multiple sources of hazards-related data, it does not address issues such as the use or relevance of such data for local planning and coastal management purposes. The NOAA Coastal Services Center works with local partners to compile hazards data that specifically address coastal management issues. These projects utilize the newest technologies including hurricane storm surge models, shoreline change studies, LIDAR bench mapping, and products derived from remotely sensed imagery. These CD-ROM products provide different user levels with multiple ways to access the data: a Web browser for viewing static maps, policy descriptions, and hazards analysis; ArcExplorer for users without GIS software; and an ArcView GIS project file for ArcView GIS users. Cooperative projects in Alabama, North Carolina, and Ohio are in development.
