Yokosuka Naval Base constitutes one of the most aggressive implementations of the new GIS technology for facilities management. Along with traditional tools like raster to vector conversion of basemaps; the use of ADRG, TLM, and ONC; and conversion of CAD resources to GIS format, Yokosuka made extensive and creative use of the naval facilities database. This included development of map objects and access to the Oracle interface for tabular oriented users, as well as an IMS implementation across the enterprise Intranet. Currently Yokosuka is implementing ArcView 3D Analyst to support the placement of a GPS base station. 3D Analyst features visualization of underground facilities including water and wastewater networks.
