The Use of GIS in National Park Service Planning for Historic Archaeological Site Paper Text

Dave Frederick
Charles Rafkind

The paper will present the use of GIS in planning for visitor use, and protection, of a historic archaeological site, Green Spring Plantation. In this first phase as a part of the master planning and public participation, the park's GIS was used to provide a unique historic/modern visual model. Using Esri software, nongeoreferenced historic maps and nongeoreferenced "site" maps were digitized and georeferenced. This addition of data will enhance the planning process.
