Making GIS Available Using Esri MapObjects Technology: A Study of Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District's MapObjects Implementation

James A. Ollerton

GIS has proved to be a very effective management tool for water and wastewater districts. The ability to integrate large volumes of spatial and attribute data makes GIS a powerful decision making tool. A pitfall that many GIS programs face is how to make the GIS information available to others within an organization. Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District has used Esri MapObjects technology to create a District-wide "front end" to the EVMWD GIS database. This application instantly answers many "GIS" type questions quickly and easily. It provides access to an interactive, dynamic map of the entire District and infrastructure. This paper will discuss the implementation planning, configuration, testing, and deployment phases of the District-wide MapObjects application.
