Montana GIS in Schools and Libraries Project

Fred gifford

Since 1992 the Natural Resource Information System (NRIS) at the Montana State Library has been promoting the use of GIS in schools and libraries in Montana. We have experimented with many different techniques and methodologies during this period in an effort to see GIS used as an effective teaching tool. Some of the efforts discussed in this presentation will include - What level of technology is needed? - A grant from the EPA to fund GIS education focused on nonpoint source pollution - Developing our own workbook to teach workshops - The importance of local data - The importance of local GIS professionals "adopting a school"
