NSDI Partnership Funding Programs: Building Relationships To Promote Geospatial Data Development and Use Paper Text

Bruce McKenzie

To support the development of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI), the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) sponsors several programs to help in forming partnerships with and within the nonfederal sector to promote geospatial data sharing. Three of these programs, the Cooperative Agreements Program, the Framework Demonstration Projects Program, and the NSDI Benefits Program, provide cooperative funding to federal, state, and local government agencies; academic institutions; and private organizations to encourage resource sharing projects through the use of technology, networking, and enhanced interagency coordination efforts. The FGDC has recently announced the winners for the 1998 programs and will soon be announcing the opening of the application period for each of these programs for fiscal year 1999.
