Roles of Historical Photography in Waste Site Characterization, Closure, and Remediation Paper Text

Over 40,000 frames of vertical historical photography from 1938 to 1996 and over 10,000 frames of oblique photography from 1981 to 1991 of the 777 sq. km. Savannah River Site (SRS) were reviewed, cataloged, and referenced utilizing ArcView GIS and associated ArcInfo tools. This allowed environmental reviews of over 400 potential waste units of the SRS to be reviewed in a rapid fashion to support preparation of work plans, characterization, risk assessments, and closure of waste units in a more cost-effective manner.
