Analyzing Road Accidents with GIS and a Data Mining ToolJ.H. BekkersThe power of data mining methods is that it is possible to find relations between one or more variables within a data set without a lot of assumptions. The problem with those methods is that they cannot deal with geographic entities as used in geographical analyses. Within a study to find out the possibilities of data mining methods, we combined ArcInfo with a data mining tool. We built an application to define spatial entities that could be used by the data mining tool. With another function we could analyze the spatial structure of the results of the data mining sessions. We used it to try to find relevant results on road accident data on a road network combined with road characteristics data.
