The goal of the rural planning project in Trabada County, northwest Spain, is to identify land use types as well as evolution from 1957 to 1997. Change has been dramatic, from a widely extended crop cultivation to pasture land use, forestry, and cattle raising economy. Data sources were fieldwork, orthophotos, and aerial photography interpretation, and the results were translated into ArcView GIS themes that were contrasted with cadastral information. We have observed a high disagreement in land use and parcel shape. As an example, cadastre indicates 73.5 percent of land being eucalyptus use, while the study shows it's 13.5 percent.
