Mapping and Modeling Wildlife Species Distribution for Biodiversity Management Paper Text

ArcInfo is used to manage species distribution data in conjunction with environmental data. Maps of species records and three types of models of species distribution are constructed using ArcInfo. Models use (1) a simple index of habitat preference, (2) a statistical description of the environmental conditions with which the species is associated, and (3) a spatial model based on Baye's theorem. The appropriate use of these methods is discussed in the context of biodiversity management using examples from the Cairngorm Mountains in Scotland and Yellowstone National Park in Montana.
