Implementation of a GIS at the Local Level in Central America

Defining Issue: To build and strengthen the decision making capacity of local actors and the promotion of opportunities for local development in twenty-four departments of seven countries in Central America. The Program for the Promotion of Sustainable Human Development at the Local Level in Central America, PROGRESS/CA, promotes a GIS to contribute to the sustainable human development at the local level. Methodology: Identification of end users and their information needs, sources of data and maps, identification of final products, and priority setting through visits and seminars with data users/producers. Following steps: database development, GIS installation, and user's training.
