To improve an existing soil map, there is a demand for collecting additional soil information in areas where the quality of the existing data is weak. Collecting soil information is performed with a tractor equipped with a soil drill and GPS receiver and a laptop PC equipped with ArcView GIS. An AW application is developed, which presents the actual coordinates on screen, adds the registered feature to the theme, and prompts for the parameters. These parameters are added to an Access database. The aim of the application was to develop a tool that is flexible and could be used for all kinds of field collecting purposes. The design of the GUI interface, the prompted parameters, and which theme the features are registered in are all managed through an Access database.
