Integrating Geographic Data: A Matter of Time!?
Els RijnierseAVV implemented a new centerline road network. Now data from several legacy systems are converted to this network and combined with railroads and waterways. All historical data should remain available and comparable with new data and with each other. Here we encountered problems with time scale due to different mechanisms in database update (should one update in advance, working back, with time steps). We had to solve the problem of how to prevent users from getting the wrong answers to the right questions. In the beginning the answers seemed to be dependent on whether the user was entering a spatial query or an SQL query.
