A Conceptual Data Model for Urban PlanningTim M. SosinskiIn her landmark publication The Death and Life of Great American Cities, Jane Jacobs outlines the conditions and characteristics that create robust cities and that will push them toward banal living environments. Jacobs presents her opinions as to the underlying causes of urban strength and vitality rather than identifying the symptomatic indications of the same. This presentation will outline a conceptual model of a GIS data structure, which could be used to identify and perhaps quantify the underlying conditions of urban successes and failures. This presentation will identify possible data sources and data deficiencies in an undertaking of this nature.
