Effective Use of Agricultural Land Using GIS Technology
R.G. BennettThe Natural Resource Unit of the Department of Agriculture, KwaZulu, Natal, has developed an ArcView GIS program using the natural resource information to help agriculturists make better use of the land. Simple agricultural crop production models have been developed and incorporated into ArcView GIS using Avenue, where potential yields can be estimated and how best to use the land can be determined. The paper will discuss what products are available and how the information is disseminated. It will mention problems encountered and what future developments are anticipated.
