Put GIS into User's Hands - Access Enterprise GIS Database
Minna LiMature GIS implementation will put GIS into the user's hands. As the GIS database becomes mature, GIS implementation is focused on expanding the user base and giving users tools to access the enterprise GIS database through the network in an easy and user-friendly environment. Based on the implementation of an ArcView GIS application for casual users at several local governments, this paper discusses the application development strategy, application functional requirements, and data access solutions. This paper also discusses (1) data access problems encountered during the implementation, (2) tests conducted for data access speed and response time over different network environments, and (3) experiences and solutions to overcome the data access problems and satisfy the application functional requirements and business requirements of an enterprisewide implementation.
