HealthQuery - Creating Tools for Improving Health

Ruel Berris

This presentation will highlight the technical issues encountered in the development of HealthQuery, a Web site that contains tools for personal health assessment, predictive modeling, geobased analysis, and analyses of quality indicator data. Major challenges, including the need to work with disparate and proprietary data systems and multivendor software integration, will be discussed. An overview of some of the technical solutions to the technical challenges will cover the use of Java programming language, object-oriented technology, intelligent agents, decision support software, and geographic information systems. How these solutions were designed and the criteria used to evaluate their viability will be discussed. A short demonstration of the HealthQuery site will also be provided.
