Development of an Integrated Water Quality Database/GISColleen SwainRobin Erkkila East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) owns and operates a very complex water distribution system with a service area greater than one million people. Recent conversion of the system from using free chlorine to monochloramine as the secondary disinfectant has prompted the development of a water quality monitoring program and a database/GIS to capture subsequent data. Water samples from various locations are analyzed resulting in parameters obtained from both the field and the laboratory. These data are entered into many databases throughout the life of the analysis process. An ArcView GIS application has been developed to access the various Oracle databases and create meaningful graphical and tabular output used in both emergency and normal circumstances to make operational decisions.
