The goal of this project is to create a prototype application for wine viticulture cadastre to manage agricultural development planning, Origin Controlled Denomination (DOC)-based production, and distributed citizen services using MapObjects Internet Map Server. Once structured, the wine viticulture GIS application allows the user to relate different kinds of wine to geographical regions and subregions, as well as production levels and marketing information for geomarketing. The application becomes an important instrument for decision support for agricultural development planning, market forecasting and budgeting, investment analysis, and site selection for suitable areas and transportation network capabilities. This capability makes it possible to protect the DOC-based production by using GIS to support controlled production trends and resource allocation. And last but not least, the system allows citizens to access information about the agricultural production area, farm characteristics, prices, and availability of wine.
