AM/FM Paper for Public Service Company of New MexicoChris HickmanTed Kircher PNM Electric and Gas Services is the largest public utility in New Mexico. The Transmission Engineering Department of PNM Electric Services is responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of approximately 2,500 miles of high voltage transmission and subtransmission power lines, the majority of which are in rural and remote areas of New Mexico. Over the past four years the company experienced environmentally damaging maintenance activities that also violated land rights constraints. Because of this, the company realized a need for a GIS system that would abate various environmental and land right infractions while increasing the efficiency of repair and maintenance activities. This article will discuss the identification of the problems, methodology of data collection, and coordination and building of the Tamis GIS system using ArcInfo and ArcView GIS.
