The El Nino Hot Line: Combining Web and GIS Technology To Inform the Public

With the potentially devastating effects of El Nino looming on the horizon, it was imperative that local governments be able to efficiently handle minor complaints and answer the public's questions in a quick and accurate manner. In an effort to prepare itself for the public, the City of Ontario came up with the idea of putting an application on the Internet. This application would serve as a starting point to answer the public's questions regarding flood zone and storm drain information, while at the same time enabling the public to report such problems as blocked catch basins.
