Developing, Publishing, and Accessing Metadata

Doug Nebert

To facilitate in-house inventory, support Internet search, and provide end-user guidance in the use of your GIS data, the Geospatial Data Clearinghouse Activity uses structured metadata for standardized description of GIS layers. The process of building a searchable Clearinghouse Node can be decomposed into three principal activities: metadata development, done with software by GIS professionals, metadata publishing, conducted on the organizational server, and metadata access, performed through Clearinghouse search software interfaces. The presentation will cover all elements required to set up your own FGDC Clearinghouse Node.
