Establishing a GIS for Planning in PalestineTrond OtterslandIn the Norwegian government-funded Physical Planning and Institution Building (PPIB) Project, a lot of effort went into establishing a GIS for planning purposes. This GIS had to be built completely from scratch, all the basemap data had to be digitized, all the IDs for connection between maps and the database had to be established, all the relevant information for planning had to be collected, and so forth. This article describes how this was done in the special circumstances in Palestine today, and it also shows examples of how the GIS was used in the project planning tasks.
