Performance Mapping System
The standard map form contains a few main areas:
- The map itself
- The map legend
- An address entry form
- A set of controls for use with the map
- A list of projects
1) The map itself
This map displays the area that you've selected to view. If
demographic shading is turned on, the map will be shaded by
the demographic that you've selected. The map also allows
mouse clicks as input; simply select one of the option buttons
below the map (the options are "Zoom In", "Zoom Out", "Pan",
and "Select", and are described further in the "Map controls"
section of this document) and then click the map.
2) The map legend
This legend describes the symbols, features, and colors used on
the map. If demographic shading is used, the map displays
the colors used and the value ranges to which they correspond.
3) An address entry form
To perform a search by address, type in either the address of the
location that you're interested in. If you don't know the exact
address, you can enter two intersecting streets instead. It is
not necessary to fill in all the fields; however you must enter
either a street or an intersection, and some combination of city,
state, and zipcode.
4) A set of controls for use with the map
The first set of controls is a set of 4 option buttons and
a text box:
Zoom In - When you select this option button and then click on
the map, the map zooms in to the level indicated in
the "Zoom Factor" input box.
Zoom Out - When you select this option button and then click on
the map, the map zooms out to the level indicated in
the "Zoom Factor" input box.
Pan - When you select this option button and then click the
map, the map is redrawn so that is centered on the
point you clicked.
Select - When you select this option button and then click the
map, the system zooms directly to a street-level
map centered on the point you clicked.
Zoom Factor - This text box contains the factor by which the
map display will zoom in or out.
The second set of controls is used for demographic shading.
It consists of a checkbox and two sets of option buttons.
Demographic shading - This is a checkbox; when it is checked,
demographic shading will be used. If it is not checked,
demographic shading will not be used.
Classification type - This set of option buttons has two
possible values
quantile - The results are divided into 5 equal-sized
sets. The ranges used to divide them will
depend on the values in the set.
equal interval - The results are divided into 5 percentage
ranges; 0 to 20, 21 to 40, 41 to 60, 61 to 80,
and 81 to 100. The number of elements in each
set may vary.
5) A list of projects
If there are any HUD projects within the area displayed by the
map, they will be listed in a table at the bottom of the
page. The highlighted numbers in this table correspond to
the numbers used to label the projects on the map. If you
click on one of the highlighted numbers in the table, a
more detailed report on that particular project will be displayed.
