K-12 Geospatial Data Clearinghouse Node Workshop
Track:  Education (K-12) and Library Science
Author:   Susan Lindell Radke
BGRG, with support from the USGS Federal Geographic Data Committee, has established the K-12 Geospatial Data Clearinghouse Node. This node is part of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure, which is being developed to promote the creation, use, sharing, and dissemination of geospatial data on a national basis. The K-12 node provides a central Internet location where students and educators can record metadata about their own geospatial data collected as part of an environmental or geographic education program, and/or search metadata served onto the node by other students nationwide. The node also enables students and educators to search for geospatial data through the full NSDI Clearinghouse made up of 80 other nodes established by a wide range of GIS users and agencies. This workshop will take users through the K-12 node's online Web site with instruction on how to build and search student-generated metadata.
