For the last eight years, Canada, the United States, and Mexico have been working on developing a common framework for forest ecosystems inventorying and monitoring. A pilot area of approximately 7,500 square kilometers has been established in northwest Mexico to test the proposed methods and techniques. A framework of Ecological Accounting Units (EAUs) is proposed to carry out the inventorying, monitoring, and management activities. The Digital Elevation Model was processed to obtain (a) slope, (b) aspect, (c) definition of watersheds, and (d) runoff flow accumulation. This information, together with field samples and Landsat imagery, was used to define the EAU. Three-dimensional perspectives were created for each layer of information. The information products were presented to local forest managers to receive their feedback on the value of the information and the visualization techniques used.
