Public demand for digital data has risen sharply in recent years. With a low volume of requests the City of Phoenix GIS team was able to offer data in multiple formats and coordinate systems, with custom processing, and on various media. However, soon more interest was generated than could be efficiently served by our limited staff. It became necessary to standardize the ordering process, data format, and packaging methods. With a new data sales process in place, Phoenix has managed to satisfy both its desire to make data affordable and easily accessible to the public and its need to reduce internal data sales costs.
