Map merging or conflation is the process of merging two vector maps to produce a map with superior positional accuracy and richer attribution than the original maps. Conflation often involves a high degree of costly manual work to match individual map elements and then update their position or transfer attributes between them. An automated conflation system has been developed to reduce the time and costs of doing conflation. The system was used for the Florida Department of Transportation in order to transfer route information from their State highway map to larger scale county maps.
