The City of San Diego has developed a traffic collision reporting system to help analyze accidents by location, accident type, and contributing factors. The system's relational database is for storing and retrieving accident records, both individually and by location. The system uses MapObjects to create a pin map that shows accidents by location and injury severity. It highlights "high accident" intersections and has the ability to create intersection collision diagrams (using ARC/INFO). The resulting information is used to determine needed traffic safety improvements. The system was developed under a grant from the California State Office of Transportation Safety.
