The distribution of data in an enterprise GIS environment provides users data sets that have previously been inaccessible or otherwise parochial in their use or application. Data mining, creating derivative data, and multidisciplinary uses of data all represent techniques for enhancing value. The practical aspects of integrating this data politically, philosophically, and technically are a worthwhile challenge. This paper outlines methods for the incorporation of traditional IS data in a GIS environment to maximize the investment made in its creation.
