The project objective is to create an interactive trip planning application for the Hampton Roads area of Virginia that is accessible to all riders via the Internet. The challenge of the application is to present the user with an accessible graphical interface. This trip planner will have conventional text boxes for address inputs and outputs, but it will also use a system map for both origin/destination input and alternative route output. This need to analyze the spatial relationships of the transit data led to the use of MapObjects Internet Map Server. By including all of the transit data in Esri shapefiles, the trip planner will be easily maintained and all changes will propagate through the application.
