Track:  Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice

ArcView GIS provides the necessary functions for development of a comprehensive mapping and analytical system for public safety and law enforcement applications. A comprehensive crime analysis system offers the following key functions. First, a built-in database conversion utility enables agencies using different data sources to import their existing data without outside assistance. Second, user-friendly menu items allow the user to generate crime reports, summary reports, pin maps, wanted posters, bar charts, and maps of crime distribution. Third, spatial analysis tools identify geographical trends, central tendencies, hot spots, and distribution patterns. Fourth, cross-referencing mechanisms connect databases of crime incidents, suspects, and gang activities.
