The Alaska Coastal Mapping and Inventory Protocol and Database CD is a complete "how-to" guide to mapping intertidal resources in Alaska's national parks. Field crews map the coast by delineating areas of similar substrate as polygons on aerial photos. Other field data collected in each polygon includes a four-minute biological inventory, stream surveys, a pace transect, and ground photographs. The data processing protocol utilizes ArcView GIS to georeference aerial photos and heads-up digitize delineated polygons. MapObjects LT controls are used to display locator maps and view aerial photographs on MS Access forms. From any computer on the park's network, managers can quickly and easily pull up the database; view maps of the coast embedded in database forms; zoom to selected polygons; and view data, photographs, and hyperlinked descriptions of data fields. Over 250 miles of intertidal coast have been mapped in Glacier Bay National Park, resulting in over 1,700 beach polygons with over 5,000 ground photos.
