The U.S. military is slowly moving away from traditional hard-copy paper maps. Replacing the static paper products are dynamic two-dimensional and three-dimensional displays of DEMs, raster maps, vector information, force deployment, weather, and additional information. GIS and GIS-enabled visualization software are revolutionizing the way the military prepares for operations. This paper focuses on how GIS could be used to create and display data for use in military operations.
