How to troubleshoot the communication network of undersea cables has been a very difficult and complicated problem due to the poor ocean geographic environment. A GIS-based troubleshooting system has been developed to assist managers and repairers of the network to troubleshoot any fault of undersea cables in the network. A model of spatial analysis for solving the above problem has been built on ArcView GIS. Our experience shows that the system application increases operation quality of the communication network and largely decreases the maintenance cost of the communication network. All experiences from our paper can be widely used to develop new GIS products or modules by GIS software manufacturers.
