Consultants from The Lewin Group, an internationally recognized health care management consulting firm, present applications of GIS in the health care industry. The Lewin Group is developing GIS tools under the Community GeoScope label that will offer a platform to integrate information for use in planning and problem solving to enhance community health. The Lewin Group also created an application called DDD (disease demographic database), which identifies concentrations of persons utilizing medical services for a particular condition, by state, to support clinical trials. The disease prevalence can be mapped by region. The database supports identification of disease "belts."
