Cultural resource information is being enhanced within the State of California to serve the needs of planners, resource managers, and researchers. The California Historical Resources Information System (CHRIS) is a State-wide system for managing information on the full range of historical resources identified in California. This information is currently managed through hard copy of both current and historic records and maps. The system is being transformed into an electronic GIS and document image-based system by the Center for Environmental Management (CEM) at the University of Redlands. The CEM is providing support for the State's 12 information centers and the Office of Historic Preservation.
