As the availability and use of digital geographic data continue to grow, the issue of geometric data accuracy is sometimes not given due consideration. The presentation will review the meaning of map accuracy; how it is determined; past, present, and future accuracy standards; and how accuracy affects procedures/applications such as data set conflation and basemap updating. Real-world examples of problems/conflicts arising when accuracy is not fully considered will be presented along with solutions and general recommendations for making sure that accuracy is properly accounted for.
