Applications for use in conservation and protection of natural resources have been developed to assist environmental review, analysis, and identification of habitat. The Integrated Biological Information System (IBIS) application developed using Visual Basic and MapObjects LT is a simple spatial data viewer and query application. IBIS provides Department of Fish and Game (DFG) staff the capability to access biological spatial and tabular data. The application and data are provided on one CD-ROM, allowing for wide use of the product. The application, developed for use by county planners, flags areas rich in species and/or specific habitats, thus reducing the workload to DFG biologists doing environmental review and coordination.
