The City of Phoenix retained Black & Veatch for a water distribution system integrity study whose purpose was to develop a replacement and rehabilitation plan for the City's most problematic pipes. Phoenix's water system has 5,400 miles of pipe and averages 1,500 breaks a year. This paper describes how the City's full GIS pipe inventory is related to the water distribution management system (WDMS), using ArcView GIS. The ArcView GIS and WDMS relationship is based on exporting and joining specific data together, which provides an effective analysis of the distribution system. Avenue scripts were incorporated to plot Phoenix's 1,200 quarter-section tiles.
