The Mare Island Base Conversion Information System (MIBCIS) is an Internet GIS application used to assist companies and real estate professionals to identify available property on the former U.S. naval base. The Mare Island military base was shut down in 1996. In an effort to facilitate an accelerated transition of vacant military buildings into revitalized and occupied private business activity, the Mare Island Conversion Division employed GIS Planning to develop a customized Internet-based GIS property information system. The application queries properties and displays lists of available buildings, detailed property reports, and both orthographic and location maps through the Internet.
