Economic Development Applications on the Internet
Track:  State and Local Government
Author:   Pablo Monzon
This paper focuses on the role that Internet GIS is playing in providing improved city services and examines case studies of municipal Internet GIS use. Cities using applications ranging from economic development, planning, and zoning can now develop powerful functionality and custom solutions that bring the power of GIS to lay users through the Internet. Model applications were designed with the purpose of quickly providing information through easy-to-use interfaces requiring just a few clicks of the mouse. Real-life examples will be examined from different cities using both ArcView IMS and GIS Planning Inc. custom interfaces. Steps for developing an Internet GIS application, costs, and time lines are also examined.
