Geographic information systems are an important tool for creating decision templates for a commander's operation. The applications and uses of raster and vector data sets are growing at a fast tempo both in the availability of these products and the realization of their usefulness as they pertain to battlefield visualization. Cadets not only learn the theory and concept of geographic information systems, they also learn through interactive practical application of real-world data sets produced by the National Imagery and Mapping Agency that are being used in field units.
