Implementation of the Northwest Forest Plan requires integration of activities (timber sales, stand density management, watershed restoration, planting, prescribed fire management, and road management) across time and space. A mathematical programming model was inserted into the ArcView GIS format to allow field staff to develop and evaluate alternative Forest Plan implementation strategies. Multidisciplinary teams of specialists are using the decision support system to evaluate the impact of the timing and intensity of actions across 165 watersheds within the basin as well as activity planning at the site level. The paper will discuss the modeling approach and lessons learned.
