Nations tend to go to war with their neighbors, yet much of the research on conflict does not take that into consideration. The studies that do try to measure the effects of proximity and conflict typically use crude measures of geographic features. This paper will use GIS to measure the spatial relationship between nations in order to understand how important geography is to the potential for interstate violence.
