Strategy for Database Query, Tracking, and Management
Track:  GIS Organization and Management
Author:   Pamela Jean Pratt

The Army National Guard Bureau is compiling comprehensive GIS data covering 43 installations. Managing an extensive GIS requires several methods. A separate stand-alone program is used to maintain and track metadata. An Access database tracks GIS data layers and contains active links among multiple tables containing installation information, data layers, metadata, and contact personnel. Query functions in the database allow users to search for specific data for an installation or the entire database. All data is retained as ArcInfo coverages or ArcView GIS shapefiles in a regional repository at USU. The data is available for password-protected download from our Web page.
