Application of GIS for Ecological Urban Planning: Selecting Suitable Sites for Development in Haramachi City (Japan)

Haramachi City is in the northern part of Japan. The population of the City is not high. And the City has many wooded areas and a rich ecosystem. But in the near future, the population will go up, and some development will be required. Therefore, it is important to select suitable sites for development to reduce the impact on the ecosystem. This study aims at proposition of some plans for development in Haramachi City using GIS. Topics discussed include environmental analysis, sociological analysis, and site selection.
