A Better Way to Implement a GIS Project in the Public Sector in Taiwan
Track:  State and Local Government
Author:   Lan-Kun Chung

Over the past several years, GIS indeed brought a whole new impression to the government in Taiwan. We used to establish an isolated GIS and communicate with the existing MIS by quite a few functions for operating agencies. However, it was expensive to implement a project by ARC/INFO or ArcView GIS for individual computer machines, and the only requirement was zoom, pan, and query a map. The obstacle seems solved after the MapObjects release, and this component development manner leads GIS from an isolated system to a portion in the entire information environment. This article introduces a multitier architecture with MapObjects, which is ready to improve the GIS projects of government sector in Taiwan.
