Traditionally, dissemination of and access to pipeline information has been conducted through the use of alignment sheets. Although filled with a plethora of data, alignment sheets are cumbersome documents in terms of their size, portability, and ease of upgrade. The sheets take from weeks to months to prepare and the process of replicating and distributing them is a major task for pipeline companies. Recent advances in GIS technologies have created alternative pathways for delivering pipeline information through an inter/intranet. These "on-line" applications provide the user with interactive tools, for accessing information, that are unavailable in the existing alignment sheet system. This presentation will discuss experiences with using Esri's IMS technology to deploy environmental pipeline data to facilitate a more-efficient analysis and decision-making process.
